Adolescent Pregnancy and Education of Young Girls in the Urban Area of Yenagoa WithinBayelsa State

The research conducted is a descriptive study aimed at investigating the prevalence of teenage
pregnancy and its influence on the education of girls in the urban area of Yenagoa within Bayelsa
State. The study population consisted of a diverse group of one thousand five hundred (1500) civil
servants in Yenagoa metropolis, from which a purposive sample of 200 individuals was selected.
Data was collected using a questionnaire titled "Teenage Pregnancy and its Influence on Girl
Child Education Assessment Questionnaire (TPGCAQ)" designed to address three specific
research questions. The findings revealed that poverty, lack of education, cultural factors, and
peer pressure were identified as significant contributors to teenage pregnancy. The study proposed
several recommendations to enhance the existing system.
