Entrepreneurship Education for Employability Opportunities of Business Education Students in Universities in South-South, Nigeria

Abstract

The study determined Entrepreneurship Education for Employability opportunities of Business Education Students in Universities in South-South, Nigeria. Three specific objectives were stated, which were turned into research questions to guide the study and the three null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study. The area covered by this study was eleven universities in South-South, Nigeria.  The population of the study was made of one thousand four hundred and ninety-four (1494) final year Business Education students in Universities of South-South, Nigeria. The sample size 1494 as census sampling technique was adopted. Data for the study were collected by means of questionnaire titled “Entrepreneurship Education for Employability Opportunities of Business Education Students (EEEOBESQ)”. The instrument adopted a four-point rating scale of Very High Extent, High Extent, Moderate Extent and low Extent (LE). The research instrument was validated by three experts, two in Business Education and one expert in Measurement and Evaluation. The reliability of the instrument was determined by using test re-test method. The set of scores was collected and computed using Pearson Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient(r) and the correlation yielded a score of 0.73 which was considered appropriate for this study. One thousand four hundred and ninety-four (1494) copies of the questionnaire were administered to the respondents; only One thousand four hundred and twelve (1,412) was retrieved for the analysis. Mean and Standard Deviation were used to answer the research questions and t-test was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that entrepreneurship critical skills prepare students to navigate complex challenges and develop innovative solutions. Based on the findings it was recommended amongst others that Universities should revise and enhance their curriculum to integrate more practical entrepreneurship critical skills training. confidence-building exercises, peer mentorship, and personal development workshops.
