Test Anxiety and Academic Achievement of Students in Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State

This study investigated test anxiety and academic achievements of students in Ikono local government area of Akwa Ibom State. In carrying out this study four research questions and four corresponding hypotheses were formulated. The study adopted ex-post facto research design. A total of 250 SS3 students were selected from a population of 1842 using the simple random sampling technique drawn from 5 out of 16 public secondary schools in the Ikono local government area of Akwa Ibom State. The test anxiety inventory was used for data collection. The instrument was validated and appropriate corrections were made. The instrument had a reliability index of 0.78 determined by Cronbach alpha reliability procedure. The chi square analysis was used in answering the research questions and also testing all the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings of the study revealed that there is a significant association between students’ test anxiety and their academic achievement in Mathematics, English Language, Civic Education and Biology. The study recommended that schools should provide regular workshops and counseling to help students manage anxiety effectively.
