Library Use Education and Utilization of Information Resources in Cross River Public Libraries, Nigeria

Abstract

The study adopted the survey research design. The population of this study was made up of
library users in Cross River State. The population selected for the study was 400. The number
was drawn from the official records and statistics kept in the individual public library in Cross
River State. The study adopted the census technique in adopting the entire population as the
sample of the study. The instrument for data collection was the questionnaire method and was
titled Library Use Education and Utilization of information Resources Questionnaire. It was
developed by the researcher and validated by experts in Measurement and evaluation. The testretest reliability method was used to ascertain the consistency of the instrument. The exercise
produced a reliability coefficient of 0.90, which indicated a high reliability. One hypothesis
was raised and tested using simple linear regression analysis at 0.05 level of significance. The
study found that library use education significantly influence utilization of information
resources in public libraries in Cross River State, Nigeria. Based on this finding, it was
recommended among other things that sensitization and capacity building programmes be
organized periodically to inform library users of how best to makes use of the library in
accessing quality information.
