Analysis of Sustainable Practices Utilized by Students of Fashion and Design DuringClothing Construction and the Consequences of Non-Utilization of these Practices to theEnvironment in Lagos State
Abstract
The on the analysis of the sustainable practices by the student fashion during clothing
construction consequences of –utilization of these practice to the environment in Lagos state
was conducted among 150 fashion design student of Yaba college of technology Yaba, who
were randomly selected from 200 student of the department a twenty-three (23) item questioner
was the main instrument used to collect data for the study. The statistical tools used were
frequency count and percentages, 123 (82%) answered yes that they use natural fabric 129
(86%) answered yes that they used zero waste method during clothing construction, 126 (84%)
answered yes that the smallest fabric are used creatively instead of putting pressure on the
fabric 87(58%) answered yes that they do use bio degradable packaging 138(92%) answered
yes that the chemicals used during fabric manufacturing is hazardous to health 126(84%)
answer yes that fashion is putting pressure on the industry. 126(84%) answered yes that putting
pressure on the factory increase carbon dioxide (CO2) emission causing climate change, in
conclusion, sustainable practice should be used by fashion designer and student alike.
Therefore, the following recommendation were made natural fabric should be chosen for
practical fabric should be recycle and reused, by student and bio degradable packaging to be
used as well as zero waste method during practical to reduce pressure on the factories to fight
climate change.
