ASSESSMENT OF KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE TOWARDS PERSONALHYGIENE PRACTICES AMONG PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS INOGBOMOSO SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, OGBOMOSO, OYO STATE

Abstract

This study examined knowledge and attitude towards personal hygiene practices among public
secondary schools in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Descriptive survey research design was used. Simple random sampling technique was used to
select 160 respondents; while questionnaire was used for data collection. Descriptive statistics
of frequency counts, percentages and inferential statistics of t-test were used for the analysis.
The result of the study revealed that the (mean=1.91), attitude (mean=1.98) was positive, while
personal hygiene practice was good (mean=2.48).There was no significant difference in the
knowledge of personal hygiene practices between male and female public secondary school
students in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area (t=0.384, df=158, p>0.05).There was no
significant difference in attitude towards personal hygiene practices between male and female
public secondary school students in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area (t=-0.895,
df=158, p>0.05).The authorities of Secondary Schools in Ogbomoso South Local Government
Area therefore, should organize periodic sensitization programme on personal hygiene
practices for students in the study area.
