Abstract

This study investigated Relationship among Academic Resilience, Self-concept and Academic
Performance of students in Colleges of Education in Kaduna state, Nigeria. The study was
guided by two (2) objectives, research questions and hypotheses respectively. The study
employed correlational design. Three instruments were used for data collection; Academic
Resilience Scale developed by Cassidy (2016) and Academic Self-Concept Inventory develope
by Liu and Wang (2005) and Academic Performance. The population of the study consist of
1,966 students of colleges of education in Kaduna state, Nigeria, while, the sample of the study consists 322 students. Pearson Product Moment Correlation (r) was used to test the null hypotheses formulated for the study. The results of the study show that significant positive relationship exist between academic resilience and academic performance (r=.489 p=.009); significant positive relationship exist between academic self-concept and academic
performance (r=.460 p=.000). Based on the findings of this study, it was concluded that
academic resilience, and academic self-concept have significant positive relationship with
academic performance among students of colleges of education, Kaduna State. It was
recommended among others that educational psychologist, counsellors and measurement
evaluators should organized seminars, workshops, conferences and symposium to sensitize,
students, lecturers and government on the importance of academic resilience and academic
self-concept on academic performance.
