Job Skills and Employees’ Productivity in Medium Scale Enterprises in Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District
Abstract
This study examined the job skills and employee’s productivity in medium scale enterprises in
Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District. Two research questions were raised in line with the
objectives of the study. Two research hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of
significance. The population of the study was 520 managers in medium scale business
enterprise, Using Research Advisory Table determination and simple random sampling, a
sample size of 200 was determine for the study. The instrument for data collection was a
structured questionnaire which was validated by three experts one from the Department of
Industrial technology Education and two from the Department of Business Education, Faculty
of Vocational Education Library and information Science. The reliability coefficient of .89 was
obtained after a trial testing with 30 respondents who were not part of the sample size but were
of the parent population. Data collected were analyzed using statistical mean and standard
deviation. The study revealed that time management and innovation skills are needed for
effective productivity in medium scale enterprises. Based on the findings, it was recommended
that every employee should be equipped with enough skills to boost productivity in the
organization.
